Elvis Presley would have to be at the top of the list for the memorabilia of rock 'n rollers whilst a set of authentic Beatles autographs would be in a similar position for groups.
Recent results at a highly-respected American auction house provides valuable information about current Elvis Presley memorabilia values.
The signed postcard shown with this post sold for US$3,000 plus buyer's premium several months ago, so about $9,000 in Australian dollars. That provides a basic benchmark.
Next, a twice-signed 1958 contract for the movie "GI Blues", also signed by "Colonel" Tom Parker, sold for around AUD$20,000.
Finally, at the top of the list in terms of recent sales was Elvis's driver's outfit for the movie "Speedway" in which he played Steve Grayson in the 1968 MGM movie. It went for over AUD$100,000 (and one would likely have to pay customs duties and GST on the importation of such items).
So, there we go. $9,000 for a great early autograph on a colour postcard to $100,000 for the remarkable movie driver's suit. Colonel Tom would be wishing, from his grave, that he had kept these items in his family!
