This envelope, released in 1980 to commemorate the 80th birthday of the Queen Mother (Queen Elizabeth II's mother) has been personally signed by 15 Australia and England Ashes captains including some of cricket's all-time greats:

Australian Captains

Sir Donald Bradman

Lindsay Hassett (also an Invincible) - an elegant middle-order batsman, described by Wisden as, "... a master of nearly every stroke..."

Richie Benaud - legendary leg-spinner, batsman and captain

Ian Johnson (also an Invincible) - a popular captain and off-spinner, skippered Australia in 17 Tests

Barry Jarman - highly capable wicket-keeper; Australian captain in 1968

as well as Neil Harvey (a vice-captain and second only to Bradman at the time of his retirement in terms of runs and Test centuries)

England Captains

Sir Len Hutton -  "one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket".  79 Tests with a batting average of 56.67.

"Lord" Ted Dexter - England Captain in 30 Tests.  Prolific run maker.

Peter May - 66 Tests between 1951 and 1961.  One of England's finest batsmen.

MJK Smith - England captain in 25 Tests during the 1960s and early 1970s.  Also an England rugby international.

Sir Colin Cowdrey - 114 Tests.  Over 7,600 Test runs.

Gubby Allen - fast bowler.  Played for England between 1930 and 1948.
RES Wyatt - 15 Tests as Captain after serving as Vice-Captain during Bodyline.

Norman Yardley - Right handed batsman.  Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1948.

Cyril Walters - averaged over 52 in 11 Tests.

Tom Graveney - 79 Tests for England between 1951 and 1969.

Freddie Brown - 22 Tests for England between 1931 and 1953.

Also personally signed by:

Alec Bedser - played Test cricket for England from 1946 to 1955, taking 236 wickets in 51 Test matches. He passed Clarrie Grimmett's world record for Test wickets in 1953.
